Very busy month for me regarding publications!

After a quiet few months, I appear to be heading towards my most prolific year of publications in twenty years of doing this! Last year my big focus was my book (my debut collection The World Outside) but starting late last year and definitely this year, I have been writing and submitting a lot. I had intended to devote myself to a novella this year but I ended chasing a lot of themes and ended up with a bunch of new stories and a lot of publications.

Let’s get to it!

September 1st saw the release of two stories by me. The first was a literary piece called An Unfinished Sentence at Does Have It Pockets? a quirky lit mag. Here’s the link, check it out, come back when you are done (it’s short) –

This story was originally written for a Flash Frog contest judged by Aimee Bender, the surrealist author of numerous works but most notably for me, the collection The Girl in the Flammable Skirt. I met her, once, at a reading in San Francisco and I told her that her stories were so eye-opening to me and showed me how you can really push the short form. That interaction inspired this story.

Next I have a reprint, one of my favorite early stories (published for the first time in 2007!), and a story with a bit of a fun etymology. I read the unpublished piece at a convention (back when I went to conventions) and someone in the audience liked the story so much, he bascially bought it on the spot. It took awhile before it finally came out and the magazine didn’t last much longer after that, but it was reprinted again almost ten years later and then that magazine (a little blog-ish online thing) went dark as well. Enter Bulb Culture Collective! They specalize in shining a light on pieces that are no longer available. And if that sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the second time I’ve been featured at that site this year.

This was originally REpublished in a cool “e-zine” format but was recently released as standalone webpages. Link below.

And, finally, I was back with my favorite publisher, Underland Press, with a flash story in the latest in their Cozy Cosmic series, this time it is holiday themed and the book is called Kozy Krampus. I’ve started reading it this week and it is an absolute blast! I highly recommend getting the book. My story, “Deep and Dark” is properly situated in the back somewhere, scratching at the door for attention.

Those are my ninth, tenth, and eleventh publications of the year! I have #12 coming in mid-October and possibly another release before the end of the year? That’s the “secret project” I’ve hinted about before here. I signed the contract for that recently but haven’t been given the okay to talk about it yet. I can’t WAIT.

Until next time.
